Baldor 7306 7-Inch 1800 RPM Grinder Review

These days it is not readily apparent how much difference there actually is in the quality of products. Generic Hardware stores are forced to sell inexpensive products instead of high quality ones. This is because folks these days are more interested in filling their hobby areas quickly, instead of purposefully. I've been a mac user for years, and have really come to understand the cost of quality in the area of computers and their applications. I recently became interested in metal working and bought one of the lowe's 'special' ($59.95) grinders for doing some basic grinding operations. It is an OK machine, but there is absolutely NO comparison to the machine presented here. We have been expanding the hobby and are going to use this grinder as part of a belt grinder system as well. When the Baldor arrived - the box says it all. The picture doesn't convey the seriousness of this product. Its big and robust. And when you flip on the switch it runs like a swiss watch. If you want to be inspired by your tools instead of challenged by them - invest in good tools - this is a great grinder. You could probably build a battleship with it.Avoid the Walmarting of America - buy fewer things of more lasting value. This grinder will be around when your grinding days are way past over.Dan P. 8" Industrial Grinders Model Code: AA (part# 8100W) Review

The 8100W grinder is listed as 1800 RPM on the Baldor website. Don't be confused by the listing that currently says it's 3600 RMP. (As well as saying it's 1800 RPM. WTF?)

This is a solid, heavy, large grinder. It produces little vibration or noise while running, which is probably due to its mass as much as it is to balancing. The build quality is very good.

I bought this to replace a cheap made-in-china 8" grinder and I couldn't be happier. I should have waited until I could afford this bad boy rather than wasting my money on the earlier purchase.

316 Stainless Steel Rectangular Bar, Unpolished (Mill) Finish, Annealed, 0 (Annealed) Temper, ASTM A276, 3/4" Thickness, 6" Width, 48" Length Review

If you know what grade 316 stainless is and are familiar with its proffered and how to machine it,all I can say its they delivered what was promised without any problems: an unpolished rectangle/flat bar 1/4" thick, 1 1/2" wide, 12" long for a little over $13.00.

For background stainless steel 316 is one of the most corrosion resistant of all the common "austenitic" (any grade of stainless in the 300 range) stainless steels. It is sometimes called marine grade stainless because it resists corrosion even in the presence of saltwater. It is often called A4 stainless on metric sized fasteners.

If you plan on using this for a project requiring machining -- like drilling or milling -- keep a couple things in mind:

1) Don't even think about trying to drill without coolant. If you value your drill bits life, use LOTS of it, literally keep flooding the area with coolant from start to stop. If you don't have any real coolant, try regular olive oil.

2) You can drill this with high speed steel drill bits, but cobalt bits will last longer because this process generates heat that cobalt can deal with better than high speed steel. If possible use a drill with an angle around 135 and if you can use a shorter "screw machine" or "stub" length drill rather than the standard "jobber" length.

3) Drill a with lot slower rpm than you are used to for regular steel or (especially aluminum) and keep the pressure on. If you need to disengage from the cut, pull it back completely out of the hole immediately -- never let the drill just stay rotating in the hole without a good bit of pressure applied. It is much easier to do this on a drill press or mill than with a hand held drill because you can maintain pressure without flexing the bit (which can cause it to snap) more easily on a press.

4) Make sure your bits are SHARP. Don't even bother trying if your bit is the least bit dull or worn.

5) You can do this even if you've never machined/drilled a significant hole in a real metal before -- I first learned about metal cutting using Titanium 6al4v, which is a lot like this material as far as drilling / milling strategy goes. I never understood why people said it was so difficult to machine until later when I worked on mild steel and aluminum -- if you're used to those metals or try to machine this like it is those metals, you will likely be quite frustrated.

6) This product comes unfinished (scratchy). If you want it to look half decent, use a disc or belt sander, start at 80 grit and work your way up to 400 to 600. It should look pretty decent by then. If not, move on to buffing with buffing wheels and appropriate compounds.

I hope this provides a decent review of my transaction, plus what this stuff is used for and what to do with it so people can decide whether its appropriate for whatever project they're working on.

This Dixon L14AM7 series long weld clamp ferrule sanitary fitting is made of stainless steel 304, seals a tube or hose fitting by welding, and has a clamp connection. This ferrule welds to a fitting to help provide a leak-resistant seal on a tube or hose and then clamps to a fitting. This ferrule fitting, made of stainless steel 304 for resistance to corrosion and high temperatures, has a maximum operating pressure rating of 250 pounds per square inch (psi) at 70 degrees F ambient temperature. It meets 3-A Sanitary Standards Number 63-03 for sanitary fittings (authorization number 621). This long weld clamp ferrule sanitary fitting is suitable for use in food, beverage, and dairy applications.

Overall this is a great fitting, if you are building something that needs the ferrulle to clamp onto with a tri-clamp then look no further.

Ive looked in all types of home improvement stores and could not find these anywhere, I look online one time and found a few but they were all the shorter style ones that are hard to weld into your pipes. These are easy to solder/weld onto as long as you have the right supplys. - A acid base flux to eat into the outter layer of the stainless.

Extra metal for more solder to hold onto for a firm solid perm. connection

CONS:

If you dont have the right supplys, you cannot really weld/solder these sense theyre stainless (but thats with any stainless item)
Shipping was only inside a little plastic bag
