Product Description

Material is best quality, cold rolled, mild annealed, sheet steel, free from buckle, loose scale or other surface imperfections. All sheet steel parts are to be thoroughly cleaned before finish is applied. Finish shall be baked on at a temperature of not less than 300 degree fahrenheit and must withstand a rigid hammer test without flaking. Hinges must be 2" high, 16-gauge steel and 5 knuckles. Hinge pin to be spun flush both ends to prevent removal. Hinge to be set in slot in front mullion of side and spot-welded to 16-gauge mullion reinforcement. Each door shall be equipped with 3 hinges. Each hinge shall be attached to door with one 1/4-20 bolt, hex nut, and 1/4" split lockwasher. The right hand door shall be equipped with a 3-point locking mechanism that engages slots provided in top and bottom cross channels and in left hand door. The right hand door only shall be equipped with a die cast, chrome plated and polished turn handle, which attaches to and operates the locking disc. The right hand door shall also be equipped with a cylinder type lock that engages the strike flanges on the locking disk. Improved quiet-door feature: Nylon washers, plastic inserts and felt pads take the clang out of the metal in the door and lock bar assembly. The result is a quieter operating cabinet with no loss in strength or durability. Contemporary styling with rounded front corners. Polished chrome plated handles with built-in grooved key lock. Pan type reinforcements maintain door alignment. Durable heavy-gauge steel construction. Back corners are slotted and front corners are supported with clips for easy adjustment. I picked this unit up in order to surveil a wooded area. It turns out to be very useful for all sorts of things. (We'll get to that...)

I originally had the x50 Thermal Eye, and the difference is staggering. Basically this unit is three times a sensitive, to the point that you can see clouds, airplains in the ski, people is wooded areas, etc.

Pros:

- Compact, very small
- Light weight
- Can be mounted to trip pod
- NTSC or PAL versions available
- Operates off of two AA batteries (Alkaline, Lithium, OR NiMH[!])
--Longest operation is off of Energizer AA Lithium batteries

Cons:

- Eye strain, it's very small internal screen leads to eye straing, similar to Night Vision Equipment
- It EATS Alkaline batteries (maybe 2 hours of use), so you really need to have a stash of NiMH (2400mAh type) or Lithium AA batteries
- Accessories for this item area difficult to find (video cable, external power adapater)
- If using NiMH batteries, the external adapater WILL NOT charge the batteries
- The video cable is PROPRIETARY, meaning you HAVE to purches the L3 cable. This is somewhat odd in a day and age where mini-HDMI is now common (It's a BNC connector... an using an adapter you can display the output on an older TV.)

Usage:

- First off: you will not miss a person... if you are surveiling an area of about a 460M arc and there is ANY form of life out there, you'll see it. People and animial show up like nonthing else, except perhaphs the warm engine block of a car. It's just like the movies...

- Second: The unit is also useful for checking a variety of side tasks: Walk around the inside of a home with it and check ever light fixture and even outlet (while turned of an cooled down) and you can look for eletrical issues. If there is heat coming from your eletrical pannel or any of the outlets, and nothing is plugged in, you should have it looked it.

- Third: The unit is also useful for looking at a home an determining heat loss (from inside to outside - from the outside), or heat/cold intrusion around windows an doors. Now you can actually determine where you are lossing heat or cold from!

I'm giving this rating 4 start due to the resticted field of view in the eye peice, the fact that none of their other models indicate a larger field of view or are compared to this one (such as the x100 or the x200), and that for the significant price it does not include any of the accessories...

The unit, unlike the other versions, does come with a hard case.
