OMAX 40X-1600X Digital Quintuple PLAN Compound Microscope with Kohler Transmitted Illumination System and 1.3MP USB Digital Camera Review

For the price, this microscope was an absolute steal. Lens quality were great, as image quality goes, I could not tell the difference between this 500$ microscope and the 1,300$ Motic microscope used at the university. As for the lighting, the 1,300$ microscope beat this one out. There's this very slight yellow tinge, even with the blue filter on, but at the price, I really have no complaints since I can see everything that I need to see without blur. This microscope couldn't adjust the contrast, but never claimed it could, and I'm not rating it lower because it can't. I haven't tried out the digital connection yet but so far everything was as promised.

Awase To Grade #7 Natural Finish Stone from Japan Woodworker Review

I was a bit frustrated with this stone (albeit the far cheaper #5 version) for a long time. It comes free of defects and is mounted on a decent base. However, if you don't know how to take advantage of its properties, it is a bit frustrating to finish with. Basically, this has become for me an auxiliary finish stone, or you could say a polish stone. Great care has to be taken to use it with only the lightest touch when it's perfectly flat, and a good slurry is helpful from the getgo. To get it flat with a bit of free slurry, use a 1200 diamond plate or a waterstone of ~1200 grit that has been carefully flattened. To ramp up the slurry even more, try a nagura. Now the stone is prepped for use.

I'm a bit disappointed with the limited information supplied by JWW which is why I wrote this review. They say something like "in the hands of an expert it is the best ever". The truth is this is a very soft stone and one that is not durable at all. This means only a very light touch is acceptable. In truth, it should mention that a 10k+ grit flat bevel mirror polished tool is a precursor to touching this stone; I do not find it ideal to use after say a 1200 grit, because it will round the tool bevel as it hollows quickly.

I would lead up to this stone with at least 5K grit and use it in the thickest slurry you can prepare in advance, very lightly. Then it is ABOUT worth the money. I suspect there are better deals out there, but there are probably some ripoffs as well. So its a reliable/easy source for a polish stone to be used specifically as I describe above.

For a KNIFE sharpener, I think the fact that the stone "gives way" or hollows quickly due to its very soft composition could be an advantage. It would round/contour easily to a blade shape or one could even control the way it rounds and try different techniques. There's where the "expert" part JWW mentions comes in.

I didn't try the #7 stone above but I suspect its a bit harder or perhaps with fewer "imperfections" which are basically unnecessary, considering the price differential. Good luck.

I needed a grinder to restore an old Porsche so I went shopping. I really liked the on/off switch position on the Milwaukee grinders. Most others had these inconveniently placed switches. The D28402K's switch is pretty good. It is very comfortable in your hand and light. And the power... OH WOW! I sharpened my lawn mower blade in just a few minutes. I can't believe that I had sharped them by hand before.

The case in very nice. It is heavy duty plastic. There is a holder in there for your grinding and cut off wheels. The handle can be put on either side if you are left or right handed.

Bottom Line - I love it. This is my second DeWalt too. It won't be my last.

These are nice 16 ounce brown glass Boston bottles. I was surprised that I got a box with 12 spaces and four were stuffed with paper, giving me only 8 of the 12 I ordered. I like the bottles and am using them for home made Vanilla extract since I do not like plastic containers for food. I saw no way of correcting the shortage problem short of sending the entire box back. I also ordered 8 ounce bottles from the same manufacturer and received 12 of the 12 ordered. Not sure why only 8 of the twelve 16 ounce bottles were sent. I like the brown coloring since it provide some protection of the contents from light. I did not like the security seals on the bottles and thought they would be differnt. The lables they sent were like tape for the top of the bottles. Over all I like the bottles, but they are not a good value since I only got 8 of the 12 ordered.
