Product Description

The 4140 alloy steel rectangular bar has been cold finished and annealed, has an unpolished (mill) surface, meets American Society for Testing and Materials International ASTM A29 specifications, and has a standard tolerance. The 4140 alloy steel grade contains chromium and molybdenum for high strength and has good machinability. This material can be heat treated for higher hardness. The bar has been cold finished, a process of removing the outer layer to achieve the specified dimensions. The material has been annealed, a method of heating and cooling metal to modify its properties, such as increasing its formability and toughness or decreasing its strength, after it has been shaped.

Steel is an iron alloy with carbon and other elements that modify the steel to achieve specific properties. In general, steels with higher carbon content have greater strength, hardness, and wear resistance, while those with lower carbon content have more formability, weldability, and toughness. Carbon steels, which include most AISI-SAE grades in the 1000 range, are classified by their level of carbon content as low (below 0.3%), medium (0.3% to 0.6%) and high (0.6% and above). This machine is so solid I am converting it to CNC immediately!

It is very similar to the Grizzly G9729 model and some Shop Fox machines I have used but has more features then other machines in this class and boasts tight tolerances. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I was shocked as to how far my money went - I got more than I expected! This proves that sometimes you don't have to pay more to get more.

Everything is VERY solid and what one would expect from a precision machine. The fact you can run the mill and lathe at the same time is a real plus!

First I have to say the customer service is great over at Bolton. The shipping was the fastest I have ever gotten from any type of company. The lathe performs better than I thought it would, great cuts and accurate. The bad, the shipping crate it was shipped in sucks and caused some scratching of the lathe. The fit and finish isn't great but for me the way the machine performance made up for the little things.

I got this as a salvage unit from my job. It would not hold load. I rebuilt the engine myself and now i have a solid unit with strong welder. The problem was a blowh head gasket, worn rings, and improperly seating exhaust valve. After $45.00 in engine parts and $30.00 for a battery, i have a unit that i can weld with and power in case of emergency. If you use the welder do not use the auto idle, that is what caused the premature engine wear. Also get a wheel kit. This thing is heavy! The problem is hat the auto throttle is meant for the genset end and the welder needs full throttle at load.

The top of the thermometer has a tail of glass going off to one side that prevents it from fitting inside the thermometer armor case purchased for this. I worked in a lab for 40 years and never encountered this sort of thing in all that time. The tops of thermometers are always smooth and rounded. The first thermometer I ordered arrived broken as it was shipped in a padded envelope instead of a rigid box and that too had this glass tail. The blue spirit is so pale that it is very difficult to read the thermometer.

I bought this stapler after a disappointment with a "refurbished" older model that would drive both staples and brads. Compared to the older one, the SX1838K was easier to use in terms of putting the staples exactly where I wanted them and particularly for providing good countersinking of the fasteners. It also does not require oiling, which avoids the possibility of staining the work. I use the stapler in my home shop for cabinet making and a variety of day to day fastening needs. I found the 7/32" staple and this stapler to be something I count on and use often, usually along with glue, to get a strong, tight joint very quickly, without having the confusion of clamping up the pieces and driving a screw.
