I compared a few brands of safety cabinets for our small auto repair shop. This Jamco cabinet offered thicker steel walls, the handle is flush with the cabinet, the hinges appear to be larger. I like the handle best because the tight space in our shop - we are often moving large diagnostic machines around to use in our 2 bay shop and we wont get sleeves or coats hooked on them. I like the shelf spacing - it gives unlimited height adjustment. I have shot a quick video of the cabinet to show some of the great features. I wanted to do the leveling feet that are on the bottom but didn't want to lift the cabinet up. This is a great feature out in the shop because the floor is not level we need drainage. Overall a great purchase. Highly recommend.

Deluxe Brain Model BS20 Review

I was recently given this brain model as a gift and it is clearly a very nice one aesthetically speaking, far superior to the 3B models you commonly see in science classrooms. I actually recall an assistant professor passing around a similar model in one of my intro to neuroscience classes and repeatedly cautioning the students not to drop it due to the model's price, perhaps it was this exact model. In terms of anatomical verisimilitude it leaves very little to be desired, the cerebral arteries are not featured and the color is perhaps a bit off, overall a little too pink, with too much dark pigmentation in the cerebellum, though the cerebellum is not the greenish hue in the photo. The brain is mounted upside down with the brainstem sticking into the air, this is because it is not connected by pins or hooks or any such non-existant connective feature, it is held together by gravity and would fall apart if turned right side up without support on the bottom. I have already dropped the cerebellum once. Though cast from a real brain I am not sure how typical the cortex is as there seems to be some unusual enlargement of the primary auditory cortex and Wernicke's area. The base is a thin plastic shell. All things considered this is a beautiful and well designed brain model but it would be much better priced at $200, even then it would be a serious investment. I took off two stars simply for the price. I think this model would be best suited for well-paid neurologists looking for something aesthetically appealing to put on their desks, students of neuroscience would probably be better of with the cheeper CB C20.

I have a few tactical knives in my possession now; Al-mar SERE 2000, SOG Tomcat 3.0, and now Benchmade mini-Rukus.

The pictures and spec looked good in the Benchmade's catalog so I had to get one especially when it was made in the US. However, I am not that impressed by its precision, blade sharpness, workmanship, handle materials used although it has higher street price than the other tactical knives I own.

First, when you wiggle the blade, it has a slight vertical/horizontal movement. Even after I tighten up the pivot screw slightly, the movement still persists.

Second, coatings of the black screws in the handle come off. When the handle gets wet, it becomes dark until it tried up again. The tip of the blade has a slight blemish perhaps it was created during the factory sharpening process.

Third, in comparison with the SERE 2000 or Tomcat 3.0, the sharpness of the blade is not even along the blade; top 1/3 very sharp, middle sharp, and close to butt of the blade, it is kind of average. As for my unofficial blade sharpness test, I was able to shave my mustache with the Al-mar but not with the SOG or Benchmade.

I like the Starrett Model T1212XRL Micrometer because of it's stainless steel construction. This gives greater resistance to corrosion, when used in less than ideal shop conditions such as high humidity, sweaty hands and corrosive chemicals. Another desirable feature of this micrometer are the carbide surfaces on the anvil and spindle ends. The carbide surfaces resist wear better than steel, thus extending the micrometer's accuracy throughout it's service life.
