The motor enclosure is either TEFC (totally enclosed, fan cooled) for protection from dust and indirect water spray or ODP (open, drip proof) for protection from dripping water, depending on the model, and complies with National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) 56J standard for mounting dimensions. Needed a slightly smaller than usual sized dishwasher to fit into space in a newly renovated (tiled) kitchen. Was a little annoyed when the only one I could find that fit was this Miele unit (never heard of it until then) which was priced higher than I wanted to pay. Bought it and have been pleasantly surprised. This unit is QUIET!! and does a great cleaning job on the dishes. Easy to load, everything inside has a obvious spot and it's worth the extra dollaros.
