Product Description
S.E. International Digilert 200 with USB and the included observer USB Software can download your accumulated data from the Digilert 200's internal memory, set alarms, and calibrate your instrument. The Digilert 200 measures alpha, beta, gamma, and x-rays. Its digital display shows readings in your choice of counts per minute (CPM), CPS, µSv/hr, mR/hr, or in accumulated counts. Reads up to 200mR. Reading ranges: mR/hr - 0.001 (1µR) to 200 mR/hr, µSv/hr - 0.01 to 2000, CPM - 0 to 214000, CPS - 0 to 3575, total/timer - 1 to 9999000 counts. Calibration: calibrated electronically using the free Observer USB software. Accuracy: MR/hr + or -10 percent (NIST), + or -15 percent maximum 0 to 200, µSv/hr + or - 10 percent (NIST), + or - 15 percent maximum 0.01 to 2000, CPM + or - 10 percent (NIST), + or -15 percent maximum 0 to 214000 (referenced to Cs137). It has a factory default calibration reset option that will automatically reset to auto averaging, mR/hr, CPM, and CAL (calibration) 100. Energy Sensitivity: 1070 CPM/mR/hr referenced to Cs137. Detects alpha down to 2.5 MeV; typical detection. Efficiency at 3.6 MeV is greater than 80 percent. Detects beta at 50 keV with typical 35 percent detection efficiency. Detects beta at 150 keV with typical 75 percent detection efficiency. Detects gamma and x-rays down to 10 keV typical through the window, 40 keV minimum through the case. Temperature Range: -10 degrees to 50 degrees C (14 to 122 degrees F), and an internal probe. Alert Set Range: 0 to 50 mR/hr, and 1 to 160,000. GM Tube: A halogen-quenched, uncompensated GM tube with an effective diameter of 1.75-inches(0.45 mm). Window Thickness: 1.4 to 2.0 mg/cm2. Normal Background Radiation: Approximately 10 to 20 CPM. The meter will hold at full-scale in fields as high as 100 times the maximum reading for anti-saturation. Output: 3.5 mm jack sends counts to CMOS- compatible devices, including computers, data loggers, and educational data collection systems. The detector is powered by a 9-volt alkaline battery (not included).Radiation Alert Digilert 200 Handheld Digital Radiation Detector with LCD Display Review
This is a good overall survey meter. It has a "hot dog" style detector and though it isn't as sensitive as the "pancake" style detector of it's older brother (The Inspector USB. And what is the fascination with naming radiation detectors after food?), that could be a non-issue depending on how you're using it. If you're looking for a general survey meter for taking background readings and checking for surface contamination, then this is a great detector. If your interested in testing your food for possible contamination, then you should really be using some type of scintillation type detector, as they are MUCH more sensitive than the GM tubes. If the higher price of the scintillation type units are unaffordable, then going with something like The Inspector USB would be a better alternative. That being said, this a good meter for "hunting" and is more rugged than the large 2 inch end window GM style radiation detectors. It has internal memory and can be used with the Observer USB software that you get for free after registering the unit with the manufacturer. Also, there's a handy little QR Code on the back label that made it easy to download the operation manual to my phone (nice!).
