Product Description

The Fowler Quadratest electronic test indicator has a 1-1/2" diameter digital face with a bar graph and digital numeric display , a choice of contact point length and measuring range, four user-selectable resolutions, and four measuring modes, and is designed to measure surface variations in narrow or recessed areas in inch and metric. The face rotates 360 degrees to provide reading from all directions. Four resolutions include two inch-style resolutions with 0.0005" and 0.00005" divisions and a virtual 0-40-0 balanced bar graph, and two metric-style resolutions with 0.01mm and 0.001mm divisions and a virtual 0-1-0 balanced bar graph. Four measuring modes record overall minimum (min), overall maximum (max), total indicator reading (TIR) and direct readings with a maximum measurement error of 0.0004" over the full-range of the 0.00005" scale. Three separate dovetail mounts allow the indicator to be mounted from the top, front, and back of the indicator. The indicator has RS-232 output capability to export data to a computer (requires cable, not included). The indicator is Ingress Protection (IP)-65 rated for dust, oil, water, and coolant protection and meets or exceeds relevant Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards for accuracy.

Test indicator gauges, also called gages, are precision instruments that measure short linear distances. They are commonly used for detecting deviations from tolerance limits, such as small variations in flatness or height of an inspected workpiece, and permit measurement in narrow grooves or small bores. A test indicator gauge consists of a ball-tipped contact point on a levered arm, also called a measuring insert, which pivots from a hinge point. The reading indicates the degree of angular displacement of the arm. Test indicator gauges are commonly used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. Standard test indicators measure the displacement of the arm perpendicular to the axis of the indicator. Dial and electronic indicators are very similar to test indicators, except that the axis of measurement is parallel to the axis of the indicator. Test indicators can be analog, with a mechanical dial, or electronic, with a digital display. Some electronic models transfer the data electronically to a computer for recording and potential manipulation.

The Fred V. Fowler Company manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and digital scales. The company, founded in 1946, is headquartered in Newton, MA.
