Tool is ideal for laying out or cutting valleys or hips of different pitches, done as follows: Rotate the blade to the desired pitch, place the face of the stock against the work and draw a line. Then place the square end of the stock against the line and draw the complementary line. This gives the complementary angle automatically, without calculation.

This builder's double-square - protractor-in-one comes in 2 variants (18 and 24 inch long blade.) The blade is much beefier (1-1/2 inch wide) than what's supplied with a combination square and the tool is perfect for laying out different pitches and angles for trim to conform to imperfect geometry I've found in renovation work. The 18 inch size is perfect for my needs and I find the tool way more accurate (as it should be for its price) than the Starrett ProSite protractors I own. The engraved markings on this tool make it as precise as a Starrett combination square with protractor head and its overall beefy design makes it better for use on a jobsite. Once I got over the price shock (Amazon seemed to have the best price) I had no buyer remorse about this purchase.
