The Dormer E550 uncoated, high-speed steel pipe tap has straight flutes and a round shank with a square end, and is used to create British Standard Pipe Taper (BSPT) right-hand threads in a range of materials, with best performance in cast iron and copper. BSPT thread, also called the “R Series,” is a tapered pipe thread intended to engage with mating thread in a pressure-tight pipe joint to which sealant can be added for a leak-free connection. The straight flutes of this tap are suitable for threading through holes (extending through the workpiece) and blind or bottoming holes (with only one opening). The modified bottoming chamfer has additional length to reduce chip load, add tool life in difficult-to-machine materials, and permit higher tapping speeds.

Right-hand threads are designed to tighten when a head or nut is rotated clockwise (the most common threading direction). High-speed steel (HSS) is a common general-purpose steel for cutting tools and is compatible with a variety of materials. With no coating or surface treatment, this uncoated tool can be used on a broad range of materials and provides an economical alternative to coated tools. The round shank with square end helps to minimize rotation in the tool holder. This tool can be used in machines, such as drill presses or lathes, or with hand tools such as tap wrenches.

In the Dormer E550 series, taps with nominal diameters of 1/8” to 3/8” have three flutes, taps with nominal diameters of 1/2” to 1-1/4“ have five flutes, and taps with nominal diameters of 1-1/2” and 2” have seven flutes. In this series all taps have modified bottoming chamfers. This tool conforms to ISO 2284 standards and can create threads to a depth one-and-a-half times its diameter. It is suitable for normal pipe thread tolerance.

Taps produce internal threads in previously formed holes and can be used in machines (such as drill presses) or with hand tools. Common types of taps include hand taps, spiral point taps, spiral flute taps, thread forming taps, and pipe taps. Hand taps (straight-flute taps) collect chips in the straight flutes of the tool; spiral point taps push chips through holes ahead of the tool; and spiral flute taps pull chips back from the tip of the tool, up and out the hole. Thread forming taps, also known as cold forming taps, press rather than cut to create threads in a drilled hole, and no chips are created. Pipe taps create threads in pipes and pipe fittings. The Swift scope has solid construction and easy focus for a scope that has both classroom and field use. The 400x magnification is useful for all science instruction into the advanced High school level. The ability to operate on battery power is a plus. I enjoyed the Macro option which allows small items to be viewed at 10x and the package comes with both a white and black plastic plate to use on the base ring to adjust for contrast. I also purchased a digital microscope camera to be attached to a computer so all the students could view the specimen. The images appear clear through all three of the objective lenses with no noticeable blurring at the edges of the viewing field. The only drawback I found was on the macro function for objects that were raised up beyond the focus plane of the lenses. Since I was using a camera, I could back out the camera lens and obtain a clear image. I would recommend this scope for those seeking a microscope for portability, easy instruction and indoor/outdoor use.

IQAir MultiGas GC Air Cleaner Review

I ordered these VOC filters along with a new pre filter this time. I don't replace the prefilter as often as I do the VOC filters because we have multiple dogs and the hair traps a lot of the dust & dirt, prolonging the life of the filter. Yeah crazy, but true. So every once in a while I gently tip the IQ over on its side and vacuum off the accumulated dog hair & dirt. O.k. Lets face it. Air filters are a must have for TI (toxically injured), and they're expensive. The IQ and its filters are among the most expensive out there. And the majority of TIs are living below the poverty line, as it is. So, sharing the tip about pet hair is valuable info for TIs. Prolonging the life of the filters makes the investment doable. Is the IQ the best air filter. Yes, it's the foundation of my system. (I have other less expensive filters for peripheral filtration, but this is my workhorse.) Is this filter essential? Yes! Does it work? Yes!

Some of you may balk at the styrofoam housing on the pre filter... Don't. I've a sensitivity to styrene (so I was concerned too) but they address that at the factory and I've never had a problem with any of these filters. I should note I do not like the canisters that have the purafil in addition to the activated carbon. It stinks, and doesn't work as well. the all carbon ones work better.

They are easy to replace, also important for TIs, who generally have very little energy to spare.

JET Pallet Truck - 6,000-Lb. Capacity Review

The unit is a pain to assemble and the instructions are confusing and poorly written. The unit should be shipped assembled.

The anchor pin/chain is very difficult to insert into the main pin and right after I assembled my unit it would not raise or lower. Tried all the troubleshooting, but nothing worked.

The technician people were helpful (via phone) and were able to locate a technican near my residence.

I am on the fence if I would recommend this product as maybe my unit was a LEMON. At the end of the Manual there is a stamp that all units are personally inspected and passed. Don't know if that is true....maybe the inspector of my unit was having a bad day!!

When the unit was looked at by the service techinican, he found that one of the CRITICAL ADJUSTMENT SCREWS was incorrectly milled and the unit CANNOT work without the correctly milled screw. Another example of poor quality control or the inspector of the unit failing at their responsibility. THe unit works now but what a real hassle to make it right.

The service tech was great and totally understood my frustration with the POOR attention to detail. AGAIN, no matter who attempted to assemble this unit, it would have never worked unless a technician (familiar with these types of units), looked at it and was able to correctly identify the problem. THESE UNITS NEED TO BE SHIPPED FULLY ASSEMBLED!!! Finally, why can't these units be made in AMERICA???? I found that my unit was made/assembled in China and Taiwan.
