Excellent value for the money. Excellent resolution, well-collimated. You need to know how to setup a microscope (it isn't terribly hard to do. Videos on youtube can help.

The good news: The TiN-coated cutters are nothing short of amazing -- at least the smaller ones. The 1/2 inch one cut through inch-thick A-36 steel with no grief, and left six holes that were as smoth as you could imagine. I also used the 7/16 and 9/16 cutters (on .120 wall tube), and they cut through the thinner metal like butter.

The bad news: It looks like Jancy's / Fein's quality assurance isn't what it should be: I tried to use the 1 1/16" cutter just yesterday, and it was too big to fit into the 3/4" chuck of my Jancy Holemaker II magnetic drill.

I'm a home hobbyist, so my work isn't all that time-sensitive. I would've been REALLY upset if I'd had to depend on the cutters to get time-sensitive work (ie., something I was getting paid to do on time / budget) done.

For the price, and considering that I bought the cutters specifically because they're Made in USA, I have to admit being more than a little disappointed.

Applied it to the garage floor of the house we just bought that was built in 1970. It turned out really well.

I had called for a quote (just one) to get the floor done and received a "ballpark" of $6K. I had laid the Rust O Leum product on our previous residence that was new construction. A few years in it was fairly marked up with tire and kid toy marks. This product looked far better.

2 biggest concerns I would offer: 1) floor prep 2) purchase size- Make sure to take the extra time to prep the floor, especially on an older, well-worn garage. It took me almost three days to power wash, degrease, then acid wash our extremely soiled concrete garage floor. Obviously, allot less time for newer/cleaner floor. We have a 586 Sq ft. garage (2.5 car). I purchased (3) "1/2 kits" to assure proper coverage. Total cost of just under $500.00 for the coating alone. Coat thickness was very good.

Prep time= 3 days. Epoxy App time= about 2 hours. My wife helped me with the sprinkles and back rolling. I would strongly suggest that this be a 2 man job due to the drying/ set up time of the coating. Once mixed and dumped on the concrete, you have about 15 minutes to spread and roll at 70+ degree ambient.

Additional tools: a telescopic handle for the roller and epoxy "squeegee" that can reach at least 15 feet. This will help in back rolling.

Biggest surprise? I called the 1-800 # on the website on a Sunday at 0730 and someone picked up. Shocked. The answering service told me to call back after 12pm and a company rep would most likely be able to answer my question (regarding dry time).

AmScope 40X-1600X Lab Clinic Vet Trinocular Turret Phase Contrast Microscope Review

For being one of the least expensive phase contrast trinocular scopes out there, this is a good bargain for the money. The build is impressively stout, and objectives have just enough resolution to make out the same structures as a higher end scope (I've used primarily Olympus). I do filamentous bacteria ID for wastewater, and although I must admit it's harder to be able to see cell structure on this scope than on an Olympus, it's still faintly observable. As it's a fraction of the price, I can't complain.

I have found one flaw thus far, but it turned out to be a happy accident of sorts. In calibrating the phase rings, I found that the 100x phase setting on the turret condenser was manufactured too far off at the 'click' on the turret to actually adjust to be in phase (you can only move the ring on the underside of the turret so much). I was able to simply mark the spot on the turret at which I could get full phase alignment (it was a couple mm off), so it's not a dealbreaker. However, the happy accident came when I happened to have the turret on the improperly aligned 'click' for 100x, and the 20x objective selected (I have no idea why I was on that), and I found that this created the perfect setup for darkfield! So I'm more than happy to have this minor adjustment for the phase contrast as I get a bonus darkfield in the process! I'm somewhat new to the field so this is probably a known thing, that you can manipulate phase to get darkfield, but it's nice and convenient to have a setting marked for it, even though it was a mistake.

The problem in the turret is just the notch on the inside that the ball bearing fits into to make that 'click' is located in slightly the wrong spot. This could be a common issue for all phase turrets from Amscope, or I could just have a faulty copy. At any rate, I'm not complaining :)

I do wish the light was a bit more powerful, as I mostly work with phase 1000x, and light is hard to come by at that combination. But for the money it's a great little scope and I'm loving being able to take photos with the trinoc.
