This little camera is a bargain for recording pictures of your items under the microscope. I researched a myriad of possibilities of using different types of cameras, from consumer cameras to DSLRs to video cameras for this use. An adapter tube with lens (included here) for the various possibilities runs about $800, newer point and shoots do not have the internal wiring for remote control and direct photo collection onto the computer, older units that work do not have enough resolution in their live view, and they all require some sort of external program to run, which can run an additional $100 to $300. The cheapest DSLR set up cost about $1800. The cheapest commercial package was at least $2000 and didn't have the same resolution as this little package, they were usually 0.3 Mp instead of the 5 offered here.

I took it out of the package, put the appropriate adapter on, popped it on the occular tube of our microscope and it was ready. The only caveat here is that the driver does not work on some older Windows machines. The computer that I had intended it for (about an 9 year old model), the driver was not compatible with the internal bios. I tried another one year newer and it worked like a charm. This package comes with software for recording images, driver, camera, and tube adapters for one very low price. I have not owned it long enough to tell whether it will hold up over time but if this is like other little cameras we've gotten, it should last a good long time.
