As a long time electronics hobbyist, I wanted a first-class LCR meter for xmas. Well, I couldn't affort a first-class meter, that would cost thousands of dollars. The 886 looked like the next best thing.

For the money, it works pretty well. I can now tell the C0G caps from the X7R caps by dissipation factor. OK, it would make more sense to just buy new ones but...

Accuracy seems to be at least as good as advertised. I found some Mylar caps in one of my various junk boxes marked +-0.5%. The meter measured them to be within that accuracy!

The meter is not perfect. The ohms function is not really usefull. Any really good DMM (like my Fluke 189) will do ohms better.

Beware, every once in a while the meter will lock up and you will have cycle the power. It doesn't happen often.
The meter has a two-point cal system, OPEN with all inputs open, and SHORTED with a special shorting "bar" installed. The meter sometimes gets confused which mode it's in and you will get a bad calibration. If that happens, cycle the power and repeat the calibration.
