The newly released MCP BR2822 is a micro-processor controlled handheld LCR meter with high accuracy & resolution & low power consumption. It can measure 6 parameters and they are inductance, capacitance, resistance, impedance, dissipation factor and quality factor with basic accuracy of 0.3% & 0.01% resolution. You can test those parameter using 4 different testing frequencies 100Hz, 120Hz, 1KHz or 10KHz. This meter has extremely wide measuring ranges, 0.1uH to 9999H for inductance, 0.1pF to 9999uF for capacitance, 0.1mohm to 999.9Mohm for resistance and impedance. This meter is powered by one 9V rechargable battery, which can be charged automatically if the AC/DC adpators is plugged in. MCP BR2822 Professional 10KHz Digital LCR Meter Review

This instrument is being touted as a portable device equipped with a NiMH 9V rechargeable battery.
In a sense, it is portable... if you don't mind having the meter permanently connected to ac line... for you won't be able to charge the battery.
'Kind of defeats the purpose of portability.
The manufacturer knows about the problem and will try to convince you otherwise by including errata in the Operation Manual, which states: "The battery will be charged when the meter is power-on by using DC adaptor power supply". Don't believe it.
I have checked two new BR2822 and both suffered from the same problem: no battery charge.

If one attempts to operate the meter off-battery juice anyway, then there is another feature lurking behind the twisted bends of the software code:
The instrument shuts down every 5 minutes or so, regardless, whether it is being used or not. Imagine pressing the power button some 12-times an hour WHILE you keep working on your project.

Customer support is non-existent: you won't hear a word either from the local US distributor Kaito Electronics or from polite (mum) MCPCH headquarters in Shanghai.

The case is made of a low-grade, cheaply finished plastic, and it shows.
The back recliner stand flexes easily even upon very modest force exerted on the push-buttons.
Perhaps, to compensate for the excessive flexing of the stand, the included Kelvin leads are stiff, making the work with small components rather awkward.
There is a large infra-red window on the top side of the enclosure despite none of the models having any IR communications capabilities.

If you don't mind the permanent umbilical ac cord or listed idiosyncrasies, the meter does the job: comparison with a new, calibrated Protek Z9218 instrument confirmed accuracy of the BR2822.

There is another look-alike model TH2821A having similar specs to BR2822 but made by Chongzhou Tonghui Electronics, or whoever the true OEM of both meters is.
