The GCA-07W-NRC Digital Geiger Counters are the only Geiger Counters in their price range that are accurate enough to be NRC Calibrated and Certified. Useful for detecting and measuring radioactivity. The model GCA-07W uses an external wand that houses a LND 712 Geiger Mueller tube. Its applications are: Education - Classroom demonstrations and experiments; Emergency Services and Domestic Preparedness, Compliance Verification and Radiation Screening.It detects the following types of radiation: Alpha above 3 MeV, Beta above 50 KeV, X-Rays and Gamma above 7 KeV.The LND 712 Geiger Mueller (GM) Tube detector is Ne + Halogen filled; has a .38 effective diameter and a 1.5-2.0 mg/cm2 mica end window. The Liquid Crystal Display is a 16 character by 2 line that provides an easy to read output. Switch selection allows GCA-07W-NRC Geiger Counter to measure and convert radiation (counts per second) into in mR/hr or mSv/hr. Time selection switch allows Counts Per Second (CPS) or Counts Per Minute (CPM) mode. The GCA-07W-NRC is calibrated and certified by an independent US government license lab that insures accurate measurement. NRC certifications require an additional two weeks processing time for NRC certification and Calibration.Data Output Jack: Outputs either Serial Data (default) or TTL logic pulse for each radioactive particle detected. Jumper switch selection. The serial output is the counts per second sent via USB cable to our Windows PC program for charting and recording the measured radiation over time. The USB-TTL serial cable is included. Secondary indicators; audio (clicks) and visual (LED) included. Also includes a headphone jack and a power jack for external power.

As a safety inspector, I have purchased many Geiger counters throughout my career. I have found Images' GCA series of Geiger counters to be the best.

I purchased two GCA-07W Geiger counters, one for work that required an NRC certification and one I bought for personal use. When testing them side by side the non NRC certified Geiger counter was just as accurate as the NRC certified.

You can not buy a more accurate Geiger Counter.

This Geiger counter is compact, easy to use, and easy to configure (simple toggle switches).

Bottom line - It does the job, it's accurate and reliable. I stopped looking for "new and improved" after I purchased this Geiger Counter.
